Reflection on Friendship.
Recently, my dear friend Chris shared a quote from a college friend: "Friends for a season, friends for a reason, friends for a lifetime." This simple idea got me thinking about how we view and value our friendships.
We often think we must stay loyal to friends based on how long we’ve known them. However, true loyalty should be about the quality of the connection and mutual respect, not just time. By appreciating friends for a season, a reason, or a lifetime, we can value each relationship for its unique contribution without unrealistic expectations.
Friends for a Season
These friends come into our lives for a particular period. Maybe we met them at school, work, or through a shared hobby. They enrich our lives during that time, but as circumstances change, these friendships might naturally fade. Their impact during that season remains important.
Friends for a Reason
These friends appear to fulfill a specific need or teach us something important. They might support us through tough times, help us grow, or work with us on a project. Once their purpose is fulfilled, the friendship might end, but the lessons and support they provided are lasting.
Friends for a Lifetime
These rare friends stay with us through all life’s changes. Built on trust and deep connection, they remain a constant presence, adapting as we grow. They are incredibly precious, but not the only friendships that matter.
Reflecting on Chris’s words, I realize the importance of embracing the natural flow of friendships. Let’s celebrate all our friends—those who stay for a short time, a specific reason, or a lifetime—and appreciate the unique ways they touch our lives.
With so much love,
