Reflection on reflection: the 6 “D” process to generate your own process

Reflection on reflection: the 6 “D” process to generate your own process

I just had a wonderful supervision session on the topic of designing a reflective process for the supervisor I was supervising. The question was how do we make sure that we ask ourselves interesting questions before and after a coaching session as coaches: questions that help us grow, that are generative, interesting and motivating? Let me tell you how we co-created a great set of questions for my recent supervision client. If you would like, you can use this process for yourself or discuss it with a supervisor to design your very own reflection process.

Dream

“Suppose you have a really helpful reflection process – how would you notice?”

“What difference would it make to you?”

“What difference would it make to your clients?”

“How would your clients notice?”

Design

“Which questions would you like to ask yourself before a coaching session?”

“Which questions would you like to ask yourself / the client after a coaching session?”

“What would you like to ask yourself about:

-?????????Yourself

-?????????You as a coach

-?????????Your stance as a coach

-?????????What to do in a coaching session?”

Deliver

Test out the questions with a real case. Write them down, write down the answers, or, if speaking is easier for you, dictate them into your phone or talk about them with a supervisor.

Double-check

Check if the questions that you designed have the potential to generate what you wanted to generate under “Dream”

Develop

Continue todevelop and refine your questions.

Do it again

Repeat this process every few months to see if you want to ask yourself different questions.

If you want to share your questions or reflect on cases, your growth as a coach or learnabout our programs come to one of our free meetups and exchanges. https://app.solutionsacademy.com/free?_gl=1*c2cxjh*_gcl_au*MTMxMTg1NTM0NC4xNzI1NjIzNTQx
