Reflecting on World PT Day 2024: The Role of Physiotherapy in Managing Low Back Pain
PSRI Hospital
South-East Asia's first and India's foremost multispecialty institute of national & international repute.
On September 8th, we celebrated World Physiotherapy Day, and this year's focus on low back pain (LBP) reminds us of the vital role physiotherapy plays in its management and prevention. As a condition that impacts almost everyone at some point in their lives, understanding LBP is crucial to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
World Physiotherapy, the global body for physiotherapists, highlights that LBP can affect individuals at any age. While most cases are temporary, chronic LBP (lasting more than three months) affects a small percentage. Interestingly, around 90% of LBP cases are non-specific, meaning the pain isn't attributed to a single structure like a joint or muscle. This makes it challenging to pinpoint a cause, but physiotherapists excel in creating customized treatment protocols to address each patient’s unique needs.
At PSRI Hospital, our physiotherapists are equipped with a range of specialized treatments for LBP, including:
Scientific studies continue to demonstrate the effectiveness of exercises in managing LBP, underscoring the importance of an active approach to treatment. Physiotherapy not only alleviates pain but also helps prevent recurrence and supports long-term well-being.
As we reflect on World Physiotherapy Day, PSRI Hospital remains committed to providing evidence-based, personalized care for low back pain. For emergency, call us on 84 84 84 84 17.
