Reflecting on what matters

Reflecting on what matters

As we approach the beginning of a new year, like many of you we’re taking a bit of time to reflect on what we’ve learned, celebrate our achievements, and be really, really thankful for all your support, enthusiasm, and positive impact.

Our special community of forward-thinking businesses is thriving (we've doubled our membership numbers), and together we’ll continue to work hard to create the cleaner, greener, fairer future our people, communities, and planet deserve.?

But the one thing I'm super-proud of is the impact we've had during the past year.

Let’s talk impact

When it comes to measuring the success of your business over the past year, where is your focus?

Of course we need to look at the numbers.?

Turnover, profitability, cashflow, margin, balance sheet.

They all matter.?

Without them we can’t do the stuff that makes a real difference.

And that?really?matters too.

This year we are super proud to have made a difference to our communities and to the environment, and we’re committed to doing more, faster, and better next year.

Celebrating our impact we've achieved over the past year:

Communities

  • We've spent over 50 hours volunteering our time with local charities;
  • We have invited 11 charities to our monthly membership meetings to showcase their work and encourage businesses to get involved;
  • We donated 20% of UK for Good profits to local charities and community organisations through our partnership with?Action Funder?
  • We supported a whole host of businesses of all shapes and sizes on their B Corp journey through our B Corp Accelerator Programme and bespoke B Corp consultancy services

Planet

Through our partnership with?Ecologi?we've?planted 623 trees?and supported 19 environmental projects,?including:

  • Peatland restoration in Indonesia
  • Wind farm in Thailand
  • Solar power station in Vietnam
  • Biodiversity reserves in Peru (preventing over 5,493,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions over its 20 year lifespan)
  • Rainforest protection in Brazil (protecting 71,714 hectares of native forest from being cut down)

Leadership

  • Launched our unique?Leadership for Good Programme?- developing better leaders for a better world;
  • Hosted Cheshire's first?Business for Good Festival?to inspire purpose-led businesses;
  • Joined the?Better Business Act?Coalition to add our voice to this important proposed change in legislation;
  • Became proud members of?Business Declares;
  • Committed to our four?Sustainable Development Goals;
  • Invited 11 some of the finest?expert speakers?in the UK to our online membership meetings to inspire and enable our community of forward-thinking business leaders;
  • Enabled our members to connect and develop business relationships with other purpose-led businesses.

As we prepare for the festive break, we're also really looking forward to doing what we can to improve our impact next year. We're really looking forward to The Business for Good Festival in February.

We began 2022 with the launch in January of Cheshire’s very first better business festival (although the ongoing threat of Covid made that a bit stressful!)?

The learning, feedback, and new connections from that event was proof, if proof were needed, that the way we do and lead business has changed.

On 2nd February 2023 we are again bringing you The Business for Good Festival, kindly hosted and sponsored by Sykes Cottages. This time it’s bigger, broader, better and indeed bolder.?

Not only have we been able to secure some of the finest speakers in the UK on all things better business, we are offering some deep-dive workshops after our networking lunch too.

This is not just another blah, blah, blah, conference, it is a special opportunity to step up, to learn, lead and connect for Good.

But please be quick, workshop spaces are limited.

Better businesses need leaders for good

Leadership for Good delegates

We’ve helped a range of businesses of all shapes and sizes on B Corp journey, through B Corp support through B Corp Accelerator and Bespoke B Corp Consultancy.?

Recently we launched the?Leadership for Good Programme, designed to train the trainers of better business. We’re really excited about this, because we’re witnessing an ever-growing demand of businesses seeking support to improve their impact, and act as a force for good.?

It can be a minefield, balancing the day-to-day, the external pressures of knowing and wanting to be a positive force in the world, and wondering exactly how to make that happen. That’s why better business consultants are in such demand right now.?

The more of us out there influencing positive change, the greater the ripples of impact, so the?Leadership for Good Programme?is really exciting for us.?

The wait list for our next cohort beginning February 21st is now open, you can join the waitlist here.

So as we approach a brand new sparkly year, it just remains for me to say
