Reflecting on the "Oxygen Mask" analogy

During each travel and just before the plane takes off, we are reminded about the behavior in case of emergency. The oxygen mask, which will drop from the overhead locker should be placed on our mouth and nose first, and only then, we can help others with their masks.
Never, ever the other way around.
While it may sound selfish, logically speaking it makes absolute sense.
If we run out of oxygen ourselves, what chances do we have of helping others? None.
Last week, during many conversations, some with friends, while others in a work environment, the analogy of the oxygen mask was brought up frequently.
