Reflecting on our transformation journey

In the last few weeks, I’ve shared some insights into our Unique Value Proposition and Business Model, and how these new tools are informing all aspects of our work.

Of course, at the heart of this transformation are our people – a passionate, hardworking collective from all different industries and fields who share a common goal of working together for a thriving region.??

Ask anyone here at the City of Greater Geelong, and they’ll tell you just how much things have changed in this organisation over the past few years.??

The need for change has been driven by the generational shift occurring in our region.???

A rapidly growing population, changing industries and services, significant new infrastructure projects and investment in our region as well as major cost escalations in a rate capped environment add pressure points to our operations and bottom line.??

With changes to our climate impacting our existing infrastructure, and the desire to ensure that our community shares in the prosperity of our region equitably, we know the Greater Geelong community needs the City to evolve to meet these changing demands – and that’s exactly what we’re doing.?

We’re working together to become a high-performing Council and organisation, by evolving to be strategy-led, working in common ways, more customer focussed, financially sustainable and continuously improving.??

We’ve experienced some turbulence, which comes with any major change – but those challenges have brought valuable lessons that have led us to a place where we have a clear view of where we need to get to as an organisation to support our community in the right way.?

We’ve come such a long way in the past few years – but the work is not done yet. With our strategic foundation built, we’re kicking into high gear in 2023 to continue our evolution – it’s such an exciting time for the City!?
