Reflecting on My Caregiving Journey: A Tribute to Family Caregivers

As caregivers, we encounter many experiences with our patients, their children, and their families. Reflecting on my journey, I recall being mistaken for my patient’s son’s girlfriend simply because of the care and attention I provided. I ensured all her needs were met, sometimes even spending from my pocket. Yet, I’ve also faced accusations from my patient’s daughter, claiming that my only concern was money.
I understand that such behaviors may stem from a fear of the caregiver occupying a significant place in their loved one's life, perhaps perceived as encroaching on their territory. If you've encountered similar treatment, know that you are not alone.
This November, as we observe #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who provides unwavering care to their loved ones. Your dedication and compassion are truly valued. Thank you for all that you do.
Special thanks to Julie Savarino for the recognition of my content, I'm honored.
