Reflecting On Hacking Peds 24

At HealthTech Strategies, LLC , we are passionate about fostering innovation that drives meaningful change in healthcare. We are thrilled to share the success of our recent hackathon, #HackingPeds24, co-hosted with Sidebench in support of CHOC Children's . This event marks the beginning of a series of #hackathons aimed at supporting health systems and health organizations as they tackle the some of the biggest challenges in healthcare. The energy, creativity, and collaboration we witnessed at this event were nothing short of inspiring.

A Community-Driven Endeavor

#HackingPeds24 was an entirely volunteer-driven event, showcasing the power of community and collaboration. We were fortunate to have the support of incredible sponsors who played a crucial role in making this event a success. A special thank you to Masimo for providing their state-of-the-art office space in Orange County, and to our sponsors and supporters, including Zapyrus , Sahaj Software , Spark Labs , Pulse Biomedical Service InnovatorMD , Founder Institute HealthTech, Redox , C6 Systems, Inc. , Adni, 美国加州大学尔湾分校 , Bodhi Leaf Coffee Traders and many others. Sidebench also made a significant contribution by offering $10,000 in in-kind development services to help CHOC bring the winning ideas to life.

Innovating for Pediatric Health

The #hackathon brought together healthcare professionals from CHOC Children's and startups like Cognoa , developers, designers, and innovators to address critical challenges in pediatric health. Participants were presented with unique problem statements from CHOC, pushing them to think outside the box and develop groundbreaking solutions. The atmosphere was electric, with teams working tirelessly to turn their innovative ideas into viable solutions.

Spotlight on Winning Ideas

We were blown away by the creativity and ingenuity displayed by all the teams. Here are the top winning ideas that stood out for their potential to make a real difference:

Winning Team 1: Aether

Problem Addressed: Medication Compliance for Asthmatics. Nonadherence is a big problem with kids and teens. This can lead to decreased disease control, high exacerbation rates, high symptom rates, increased mortality and disability and a reduced quality of life.

Impact: This group is planning to start a company around this. They are working to reduce the stigma placed on those who use inhalers and provide support for patients to increase adherence and empower kids to take charge of their healthcare.

Winning Team 2: Mood Meter

Problem Addressed: Clinician Burnout and it's Impact on Care. Caregivers are leaving healthcare in mass. This is a huge issue for even our smallest of patients. To ensure quality of care, healthcare needs new ways to manage burnout.

Impact: This team is leveraging AI to better to measure and help manage medical professional burnout. Their goal is to address issues leading to burnout in real time to keep clinical teams healthy and happy, which in turn, will provide our kiddos with the best care possible. This team is also planning to continue work on what they created!

Winning Team 3: Compass

Problem Addressed: Transition of care from pediatric to adult care. Many young adult get lost in the system when they have to take control of their own healthcare as a result issues often go unaddressed and chronic conditions are often unmanaged leading to further health issues down the road.

Impact: This team created a tech-forward solution that empowers families, health systems, and payors by revolutionizing the transition from Pediatric to Adult care, enhancing patient outcomes, and alleviating healthcare system burdens.

Each of these projects exemplifies the innovative spirit and dedication of the participants, and we are excited to see how these ideas will be developed further!

Looking Ahead: The Future of Innovation

As we conclude this hackathon, we are already looking forward to the next one. The enthusiasm and commitment shown by the participants and sponsors have reinforced our belief in the power of collaborative innovation. We are in discussions with several health systems and other organizations who want to exploring this exciting way to empower staff and solve existing challenges. And the great part is, that this format works for any industry!
