?? Reflecting on an Exceptional Year of Growth and Achievements in Light Country! ??
As 2023 comes to a close, we're filled with gratitude for the remarkable journey we've shared here in LIGHT COUNTRY. ?? Here's a glimpse into some of the thrilling milestones that define our year:
?? New Leadership and Council Dynamics:
We're excited to celebrate the appointment of our new CEO, Mr. Richard Dodson , marking a significant chapter as we bid farewell to Mr. Brian Carr after his dedicated 14 years of service. Additionally, the formation of a new Elected Body brings fresh energy, with 4 new members joining 5 re-elected ones.
?? Service Milestones and Team Achievements:
Kudos to the incredible dedication of our team members! This year, we celebrated 3 individuals reaching 20 years of service and 6 hitting the impressive 30-year mark. A heartfelt congratulations to all, especially to Lindsay, Rory, James, Kieren, Lisa, Michael, Tanya, Katherine, and Kerrie! ??
?? Development and Growth:
As a growing region, we've seen a surge in development with 370 applications, including 65 new houses, valued at ~$129.5M. A fantastic accomplishment as our team determined over 98% of applications within legislative timeframes, responding to over 1,200 additional inquiries.
?? Community Engagement and Initiatives:
The Your Say Your Future / Community Ward Projects garnered 77 applications, funding 33 in September 2023. Our libraries have been vibrant hubs, delivering 692 program sessions with 4784 participants.
?? Celebrating Contributions and Open Spaces:
Recognition flowed at the Australia Day Breakfast and Citizen of the Year Awards. Mrs. Jennette Mickan (posthumously) received the Mayor’s Inspiration Award for her extensive contributions. Our 45 open spaces, including recreation, sporting, nature spaces, and public realms, have become cornerstones of community life.
?? Rebranding and Tourism Success:
The Visitor Information Centre is now LIGHT COUNTRY, with new entrance signs. Our region welcomed 40% interstate and 3% international visitors, testament to our growing appeal.
?? Thriving Events Scene:
Events like the Odyssey Festival and the No Quiet Fest demonstrated the resilience of our vibrant festival landscape, drawing in 331 attendees and proving that Light Country is the place to be!
?? Water Projects and Development Prospects:
The Bunyip Water Scheme transferred 10 GL of recycled water, contributing $10.3M. Construction has begun on the Roseworthy Water Scheme, signaling progress and growth.
?? Tourism and Creative Industries Focus:
Exciting prospects lie ahead with the Drover’s Encounter project gaining positive investor interest. The Creative Industries flourished with the Public Art Grant Project and the installation of stobie poles and street furniture in the Wasleys town centre, setting the stage for more installations in 2024.
?? Gratitude to Our Community:
A heartfelt thanks to our communities, hard-working staff, Council Members, volunteers, State and Federal Governments, partners, and stakeholders. Your support has been invaluable, and we couldn't have achieved these milestones without you.
?? Looking Ahead to 2024:
Light Regional Council has found its stride, and the anticipation for 2024 is both inviting and exciting! Until then, we wish you a safe and joyous festive season. ????
