During our team meetings in October, I posed a simple yet profound question: "What's one word that describes this year for you." Without a moment's hesitation, I chose the word "disruptive." It felt fitting, but not entirely in a negative sense.
Why "disruptive"? Well, in many ways, this year has unfolded with its fair share of chaos, challenges, and transformative moments. But amidst the chaos, triumphs, moments of clarity, and invaluable lessons have reshaped my perspective on leadership and life.
The Triumphs of Disruption
One of the most empowering aspects of disruption is that it can reveal our hidden strength. I've witnessed this firsthand in my own journey. In the face of disruption, I've discovered my resilience—the ability to not only endure adversity but to thrive in its wake. I've also seen my team rise to challenges with innovative solutions and a renewed sense of purpose. These moments have revealed the true essence of leadership: not a solitary endeavor, but a collective force. I'm grateful for their voices and skills that work in sync with mine harmonizing towards a common goal.
One of the things that I'm most proud of is the way that my team responded to the challenges of the past year. Connecting the Dots, our annual leadership development event, was a testament to that. From planning to the actual day of the event, they showed up day in and day out, committed to our mission and each other. They were willing to learn new things and to adapt to new ways of working. And they did it all with a positive attitude.
But perhaps my biggest leadership triumph this year was my ability to lead my team through disruption. With the world changing rapidly, I was able to keep my team focused and motivated. I helped them to embrace change and to see it as an opportunity for growth.
The Transformative Lessons
But perhaps the most profound aspect of disruption is its transformative lessons. In the chaos and uncertainty, there lies an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to emerge with a refined sense of purpose.
This year has taught us that disruption is not just about challenges; it's about the opportunities that arise from them. It's about growth, innovation, and adaptation.
