Reflecting on Digital Business Modelling ??

Continuing my reflection series on my Master's journey at Ca' Foscari University, I'd like to share my experience with the course Digital Business Modelling (EM1406).

Delving into Digital Business Strategies

This course focused on modern business planning methodologies and explored various digital business models, such as freemium, subscription services, and more. We extensively studied the book "Digital Business Models: Driving Transformation and Innovation" edited by Annabeth Aagaard, which provided deep insights into how technology is reshaping business landscapes.

Personal Reflections

Coming into this course with over a decade of experience in sales, I found that I was already familiar with many of the concepts, both theoretically and practically. Additionally, much of the material overlapped with a course I took during my previous studies at ITMO University called "High Tech Business Creation," where I learned about various sales strategies and business models.

However, the real value of this course lay in:

  • Networking Opportunities: It was during this class that our cohort truly connected. After three months of studying together, we finally got to know each other's names and backgrounds. This laid the foundation for strong professional relationships.
  • Collaborative Learning: Working closely with classmates on group presentations and discussions enriched the learning experience by bringing diverse perspectives to the table.
  • Reinforcement of Knowledge: Revisiting these business models reinforced my understanding and allowed me to view them through a fresh academic lens.

Skills and Takeaways

  • Enhanced Communication Skills: Presenting case studies and participating in group discussions helped refine my ability to convey complex ideas effectively.
  • Appreciation for Diverse Perspectives: Engaging with peers from various backgrounds broadened my understanding of how digital business models apply in different contexts.
  • Importance of Networking: Building relationships with classmates proved invaluable for both personal growth and future professional collaborations.

Final Thoughts

While the course content mirrored much of what I had previously learned, the experience emphasized the significance of collaboration and networking in both academic and professional settings. It was a reminder that sometimes the greatest value in a course comes not just from the material, but from the people you meet and the connections you make.
