Reflecting on CrimeCon Glasgow

I’ve worked in the events industry for many years in markets that have varied including agriculture, design, construction and comics, but irrelevant of industry the principles of running events remain the same.

When The Assembly Events formed the partnership with Red Seat Ventures to run CrimeCon UK I never could have imagined how different our new event CrimeCon would be and how much it would impact me as an individual.

The sense of community is incredible, CrimeCon brings together such a vast range of people with different backgrounds, education & experiences and whilst some opinions may differ, everyone is so respectful of each other and shares the same values - It not a macabre or sensationalist atmosphere.

On Saturday 16th September CrimeCon Glasgow 2023 was an absolute triumph. I know I am the organiser so you would expect me to be positively promoting our events but for the first time I sat and watched the content in its entirety and was so impressed & inspired by the Guest Speakers – Watching the full programme is just something I’ve never done before, and any fellow event organiser will understand that feeling and the responsibility to actually run the show! But now with the support of our bigger team including Emma Holloway, Katie Moore & David Jones who are fabulous - It meant Michael Dynan , Jane Galpin & I could watch the line up – It combined education and personal real life stories but the stand out for me is the strong sense of community CrimeCon is building.

Besides our team, I’d like to thank all the CrimeContributors without whom CrimeCon would not be possible...

I felt all sense of emotions, I cried A LOT, I laughed A LOT and I’ve made some fantastic new friends! There was never a dull moment, and we even had a wedding proposal by Bobs co-host Ali to a visitor that he actually met at a previous CrimeCon UK! So I guess I’ll be getting my hat ready!

I’ve left CrimeCon Glasgow with an even deeper appreciation for the world of true crime and everyone involved in it. I am heading to CrimeCon in Orlando this week and am excited to catch up with my CrimeCon friends there and have such a strong desire to learn more.
