Reflecting Back on Women's Equality Day before the Long Weekend
As we head into the long weekend, I share with you our latest Shearman & Sterling LLP Barrier Blasters episode which we recorded in commemoration of Women’s Equality Day earlier this week. The conversation features two pioneering women who helped effect tangible change around women’s equality in the U.S. during the second-wave feminist movement – Joanne Edgar and Gloria Jacobs. Joanne and Gloria discuss the various ways in which they stood up for women’s rights throughout their careers and during their tenure at Ms. magazine. We also touched on the progress we've seen over the decades with respect to women, as well as opportunities to be had for a more equitable future.
Joanne Edgar is a founding member of Ms. magazine – a publication dedicated to the support and advancement of women in society, which began publishing in the early 1970s. Gloria Jacobs was an executive editor at the publication and is currently the executive director of the Feminist Press and the President of the Board of Bellevue Literary Press.
I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.
