The 34th Alzheimer Europe Conference, held from 8 to 10 October 2024 in Geneva under the theme "New Horizons – Innovating for Dementia," was a remarkable success. Bringing together over 960 delegates from 42 countries, the event was a vibrant platform for sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration across borders. Experts, researchers, healthcare professionals, caregivers, and people with dementia gathered at the Centre International de Conférences Genève (CICG) to explore the latest innovations in dementia research, care, and public health policy.
The conference featured more than 400 presentations, including oral sessions, quick presentations, and posters, covering topics such as early detection, prevention strategies, new treatments, and psychosocial interventions. A key highlight was the involvement of people living with dementia and their caregivers, who shared their personal experiences and participated actively in discussions, emphasizing the importance of hearing their voices. The atmosphere was one of genuine connection, with a focus on innovation and building a more inclusive society for people living with dementia.
Speakers emphasized the need for innovation beyond medical treatments—addressing social attitudes, supporting caregivers, and utilizing technology to create dementia-friendly communities. The sessions highlighted the importance of new approaches, such as digital biomarkers, artificial intelligence, and the use of virtual reality to promote social engagement. The inspiring talks by experts from various disciplines, including psychosocial researchers and clinical practitioners, demonstrated the power of collaboration in tackling the complex challenges associated with dementia.
