The end of the year is a perfect time to reflect on the past and envision the future. Even as we have expanded to Cerner Charitable Foundation earlier this year, we are proud of our rich, 25-year history as First Hand, Cerner’s corporate philanthropy.
Our founders, Jeanne Lillig-Patterson, Neal Patterson and Cliff Illig inspired those around them to do great deeds. That inspiration came to life very clearly in First Hand. Even as the foundation’s vision expands, we continue to live out their legacy.
To commemorate the importance of this legacy and year, we have created a digital 25th anniversary book. Throughout it, you will read about and see pictures of the special people, companies and organizations who have enabled the foundation to work toward its mission and vision. You can also see how the generosity of First Hand donors allowed us to expand while the changing landscape of health care shaped our programs and offerings.
The vision and wisdom of our founders can be seen throughout the anniversary book and throughout the foundation today. Jeanne’s mentorship shaped me as a young professional and continues to have a powerful impact on my work. Jeanne was boisterous, full of energy and seemingly on a mission every minute of every day. She was a fighter. She courageously fought her own battle with cancer and never wavered on her commitment to the people served by First Hand. Her relentless drive for improvement shaped my early career and further influences me today.
Whether you became a friend of the foundation years ago or are just now learning about us, I hope you can join me in celebrating our history and how our founders’ incredible vision continues to inspire.
