As I bid farewell to 2023, I find myself compelled to share twenty-three (23) reflections that have shaped my journey throughout this transformative year.
Each experience has been a stepping-stone towards personal and professional growth, and I am immensely thankful for the invaluable lessons learned.
- Embrace Change: Taking a leap of faith, I ventured beyond my comfort zone, transitioning to a new job in a different country. The risk was daunting, but the rewards have been immeasurable.
- Challenge Yourself Daily: Set a minimum of one task outside my comfort zone and prove to be a catalyst for growth. It is amazing what you can achieve when you push your limits.
- Prioritise Well-being: Prioritising my health has been non-negotiable. Healthy eating habits have fuelled my productivity and resilience.
- Independence Matters: Cultivating independence has empowered me both personally and professionally.
- Expectations in Check: Managing expectations is key to avoiding disappointment. By expecting less, I have found joy in unexpected successes.
- Stand Firm: In the face of adversity, never compromise your values. Standing firm against negativity has been crucial for maintaining authenticity. (Even if you are the only one doing it)
- Exercise: Regular exercise, even if confined to weekends, has been a source of mental and physical empowerment.
- Evaluate Relationships: Reviewing connections and investing in those who reciprocate positively has strengthened my support network. Maybe you have known them the longest, or maybe they might be family but if they don’t have your best interests or do not create value they need to be let go.
- Seek Assistance: Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. It fosters collaboration and personal growth.
- Forgiveness: Forgiving my past self has been liberating. Letting go of what I cannot control has brought me peace and created room to create new positive relationships.
- Communication is always Key: Communication is the bedrock of any relationship, whether professional or personal. Clear and open communication has resolved misunderstandings and strengthened bonds.
- Let Go: Severing ties with individuals who do not value friendship or contribute positively has created space for meaningful connections.
- Empower Others Responsibly: Recognising that I cannot save everyone has shifted my focus to empowering others to take responsibility for their journey.
- Continuous Learning: The pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong commitment. It keeps us relevant and adaptable in an ever-changing world. Being an insurance broker, I learn something new every day.
- Be Bold in Business: Always be the first to make an offer in a discussion. Confidence in negotiations sets the tone for successful partnerships.
