Reflecting on 2020

We’re approaching the end of 2020 – and what a year it’s been! A year of challenges we’ve never had to face before. A year that was tough for everybody, not just for Ooredoo.

When I reflect on 2020, there are a number of Group and OpCo highlights, both operational and financial, that are a testament to our resilience in the face of these challenges.

Each of the OpCos are to be congratulated for their significant achievements in this unprecedented year. 

As our customers began living most of their lives online, we found new ways to digitise the core and make it easy for customers to find, buy and use our services online.

We innovated with our digital services and content, providing real value and convenience for the people we serve.

Beyond our customers, we also supported the communities in which we operate. In a time of fear and uncertainty, we used our resources and expertise to make people’s lives better - with countless local government collaborations.

In the global financial climate of this year, as a Group, we still managed to increase our customer base, and recorded a 16% year-on-year net profit increase at 9M 2020. These are remarkable results, and a testament to the hard work, dedication, intelligence and diligence of each and every one of you.

And that’s not all – across the world, OpCos also managed to launch new partnerships, win prestigious awards in all markets, grow their customer bases and distribution channels. An unbelievable feat.

But just because this has been a year of progress against all the odds, does not mean we are going to become complacent. As 2021 approaches we are accelerating our digital transformation journey, and placing fresh focus on being more agile, taking more individual ownership and - above all - being more customer-centric in everything we do. 

Moving into 2021, it will be crucial to set the momentum for Ooredoo to succeed and to work hard at implementing our initiatives. We have a great team, a great plan, and we will only get stronger through this transformation together.

As we come to the end of a year that will live long in our memories, I want to leave everyone at Ooredoo with a simple message: Thank you! Without you, we would not be where we are now!

I’m looking forward to 2021 with optimism, excitement and ambition to be an even better Ooredoo than ever before.
