Reflecting on 1000 Days at Hidesign: My Journey and Learnings as an E-commerce Manager

Hey everyone! This month marks a special milestone for me—I’ve officially hit 1000+ days at Hidesign. As the E-commerce Manager for Hidesign , I’ve been lucky enough to manage our website operations and drive sales for a brand that’s all about premium leather goods.

I wanted to share my journey, the challenges I’ve faced, and the valuable lessons I’ve learned. So, let’s dive in!

Understanding Our Products and Customers

When I started at Hidesign, I wasn’t a fashion guru. Our brand is all about high-end leather goods; at first, it was tough to get a grip on the fashion side of things. Instead of trying to become a fashion expert overnight, I decided to focus on our customers. I spent time understanding who they are, what they like, and how they shop. By getting to know our target audience’s preferences, like design, colour choices, and leather types, I could better align our products with what they wanted. It’s been a game-changer for driving sales and making our customers happy.

Mastering Delegation

In the beginning, I was a bit of a control freak. I tried to do everything myself, thinking that’s what a good manager does.

But soon, I realized that delegating tasks based on my team’s strengths and weaknesses was key to our success.

It wasn’t easy at first, but learning to trust my team and give them ownership over their tasks has made us all more productive and motivated. Plus, it’s given me more time to focus on bigger-picture strategies. Setting up proper SOPs streamlined the process and ensured the work got done on time.

Optimism and Leadership

I’m naturally an optimistic person, and I try to lead my team with positivity. Creating a positive work environment is super important to me, but I’ve also learned that there’s a fine line between being nice and being taken advantage of.

It’s been a balancing act—being kind and supportive while also being firm and setting clear expectations.

This balance has helped maintain team morale and ensure we stay on track with our goals.

Resolving Conflicts

One of the skills I’m most proud of developing at Hidesign is conflict resolution. Dealing with conflicts within the team isn’t fun, but addressing them proactively has helped us minimize issues and build a more trusting, productive environment. It’s all about listening, understanding different perspectives, and finding a solution that works for everyone.

Embracing Growth Opportunities

Hidesign has a dynamic work culture that’s given me so many opportunities to grow. Whether it’s supporting the marketing team with ad promotions, managing international business operations, or diving into B2B ventures, I’ve had the chance to learn and adapt constantly. These experiences have kept me on my toes and pushed me to continuously improve.

Supporting My Team

I’ve learned that supporting my team is crucial. Whether it’s providing technical help, stepping in when key team members are away, or assisting with creating master files, being there for my team has strengthened our bond and collaboration. It’s all about building trust and ensuring that everyone feels supported.

Staying Organized

Managing multiple projects can be overwhelming, but staying organized and on top of tasks is essential. Keeping documents and thoughts organized, and knowing who to contact, and what information to share has been critical for overseeing my team and projects. This organizational skill has been a lifesaver in managing our busy e-commerce operations. In the office, I’ve been known for creating master files for every operation and reducing manual Excel work through macros and VB programs. These tools have streamlined our processes and increased efficiency.

Turning Challenges into Opportunities

When I joined Hidesign, our e-commerce department was still finding its footing compared to the well-established retail division. This gave me a huge opportunity to explore and innovate. Over the years, I’ve led several key initiatives, including:

  1. Implementing a ticket management system
  2. Rolling out a cloud telephone system
  3. Establishing a customer engagement platform
  4. Introducing affiliate marketing strategies
  5. Integrating a shipment aggregator
  6. Onboarding new agencies
  7. Developing and optimizing our website

These projects have improved our operational efficiency and significantly contributed to our growth in the e-commerce landscape. They've also made me more skilled in project management.

Cheers to 1000 Days and Counting!

My journey at Hidesign has been a mix of learning, challenges, and growth. The lessons I’ve learned here will stay with me forever. As I look forward to more milestones, I’m excited about the future and the continued evolution of Hidesign. Here’s to many more days of innovation, teamwork, and success!
