Reflect and Refocus

December gave me time to reflect on last year - my journey out of corporate life and into the world of self-employment. So, how has it been and what do I see the future holding for me?

IP Arkitek took wings and launched in September 2021 with me at the helm. My emotions were a mix of excitement and nerves having spent 15 years+ in corporate leadership roles. I was saying goodbye a steady salary, healthcare, pensions and paid holiday. What I didn't realise at the time was that I was also saying goodbye to the old me - unhappy, lost, unfulfilled and drained. I knew I needed to change for my own personal benefit but I guess I didn't know how much that change would impact on my life and wellbeing.

This journey started in December 2020 when I first made a connection with the people at Zengility. It took about a month for me to commit to their program, but it was a great move for me. Paul and Ben (along with their brilliant team) guided and coached me through the emotional rollercoaster and ultimately made this journey possible. Looking back, I wouldn't be here now, at this time, if it wasn't for their support. I dictated the pace and can say that the process was enjoyable, although I did often need some 'tough love' to make the right moves at the right time. Heart felt thanks to the guys - we will stay in touch and continue to build on each others success, I'm certain of that.

My final weeks at Centrica were daunting, but my focus on the launch was laser-like. I have to thank everyone there who supported me throughout my time and as I moved on. I was leaving on my terms, without any package or redundancy and I'm sure some of you thought I might have gone slightly cuckoo. Well, I think the move can now be justified as I look at the next growth phase for me and my business. IP Arkitek is doing well, considering the business launched in the autumn of 2021.

And as for me, well I feel just great. I have more time with my family and for myself. I've started many more projects, some of which will develop into businesses I hope, and I've learnt new skills. (That's my photograph above but can you tell what it is? Answers in the comments below please).

Has it been worth it? Absolutely yes it has and I'd do it all again if I had my time over. The good people at Zengility had a hand in making this possible, but it was my direction and vision that brought it all to life. I know they are proud of my progress and I am most grateful for their continued support.

I look forward to the future in a way that I've not been able to before. I will continue to grow, both as a person and as a business.

2022, bring it on!

Thanks for your kind words Charles. It's been an absolute pleasure to support you.

Great news Charles! Really glad things are going well. It’s all too easy to sacrifice our happiness and mental well-being for a guaranteed income and your story is testament to how we should all consider this and be open about options and opportunities, however daunting they may initially seem. Well done!
