Reflect Often...
How are you today?
How many times do you just answer, "Fine."
Or, how many times do you give a response and you just hear back, "Cool."
It's like you are just reading off a script, day in and day out (I sometimes refer to it as a hamster wheel of life).
The Problem:?I am on Autopilot
This week, imagine we are sitting in a park, enjoying some nice, warm, sun filled time together.
You decide the color of the picnic blanket (or are we just sitting on the ground)?
ME: "Hey, how are you?"
YOU: "I get up in the morning. Do stuff. Go to bed. Rinse and repeat."
It's like we are just zombie-ing (dunno if that is a word, but go with it for a moment) through life sometimes.
Reacting.
And, like a good little zombie, we want to get others to become zombies.
That's how people become zombies (OK, there is no such thing IRL but again, thanks for playing along).
The Actionable Tip: Reflect Often
In the agile framework, Scrum I teach -- and implement often with clients around the world -- there is an important event called a Retrospective.
This is usually the first event that gets dropped when Implementing Scrum.
Why?
Because people become zombies and run on auto-pilot and the "list" of things that can be improved just gets longer and longer and longer and nothing gets done so who cares this is a waste of time lets drop it because we have sooooo much to do and we are sooooo busy doing stuff and adding to stuff that oh... go away Mike.
And.
BOOM.
You get the picture.
The only way for you (and me) to be able to increase productivity by doing less -- the promise of this little weekly newsletter -- is to figure out where and how you can improve.
Do that.
Now.
Or don't. And continue running on the hamster wheel and doom scrolling online (smile).
Your Next Step...
Think about the problem I've described and my actionable tip above.
Here is the part where?I need YOU contribute YOUR actionable tip?for others who are reading this short article....
Please share ONE actionable tip on?what you gain by reflecting often to help get more done by doing less.
Thank you.
