While getting an interview may not be as difficult as it was in the past. The challenge is no longer what to do to ace the interview but what not to do. Candidates tell us that their concerns now rest in the realm of what Not to say at the interview. So, once you are in front of potential employers, try not to ruin your prospects by speaking before you think. Many candidates pepper a perfectly framed response with ill-chosen comments.? The magnet faux are often in response to these critical questions:
1.?????? One jobseeker, when asked why she applied to the position, told me, "Because it was open and near my house!" I asked helpfully, "Anything else?" No, the candidate replied, putting a punto final to that line of questioning.
2. Employers are interested in learning about you but do not want to learn everything. Candidates would do well to eschew discussions about personal troubles and politics at the first interview.
3. Avoid using superlatives when outlining your skills and attributes. Express your thoughts and achievements. Simply. Do not boast!
4.?????? Try to avoid the word "sorry." For example, "Sorry, I am late," "Sorry I forgot to bring an additional resume," or "Sorry finding parking was challenging." The gold star for courting interview failure goes to the candidate who says, "Sorry, I meant to research your company's products." Failing to thoroughly research your prospective employer's products or services is a huge gaffe. But while it is essential to be measured, do not downplay your attributes.
5.?????? Do not ask questions regarding annual leave and vacation policy early in the interview. An interviewer might interpret it to mean that you are planning your absences from the workplace before you start at the company.
6. Finally, the jewel in the crown of interview failures is forgetting to turn your phone off so you need to interrupt the interviewer to take a call. Many candidates think taking telephone calls, replying to texts, etc., during an interview is acceptable. It isn't, don't do it!
Avoid morphing into a talking thesaurus by using language and process jargon specific to your present job that may be unknown to the interviewer. Be careful to eschew using the company jargon of your previous employer or assume the interviewer knows anything about your experience. Instead, speak clearly about your skills and knowledge to avoid any confusion.

While it is tempting, do resist the urge to detail the faults of your current boss, the company, and the other team members. It's never wise to burn your bridges. Be prepared to answer the following question: “What interests you most about this role?” And do counter the urge to reply with any of the following: assuming a leadership role, the short commute, the pay, getting to know my co-workers, etc. For while the interviewer’s style may make it appear that it is all about you, it really isn’t!?

Many job seekers do speak before they think. Their excuse was that they got carried away since the interview was going well. Since no one likes to be part of a failure that could be helped, rare is the recruiter or hiring manager who will refer you for other jobs or to other managers, divisions, or companies if your initial interview was a failure.

1 个月Applicants should prepare concise and informative responses to this question at their interviews, regardless of their experience level. The question is: Where do you see yourself in five years? Interviewees should build their responses around the experience and skill sets they want to gain and the level of responsibility they want to achieve.
