Refine Today...
Last week, I asked you to do something that would help you do less in order to become even more productive (the promise of this weekly-ish newsletter on LinkedIn).
OK.
Sounds easy (it's not easy for everyone errr OK many people).
What stops YOU from delivering something?
Anything?
You might get stuck in analysis paralysis and never feel ready to even start delivering something.
Sound familiar?
If not... keep scrolling // skip this article // and carry on with your life :-).
If it does sound familiar...
The Problem:?We Can't Start
This week, imagine you and I are waiting for public transportation.
You decide where, when, and what type of transportation (plane, trains, or automobiles / bus anyone). Remember, this is your imagination I am just setting the scene in your mind since we are not together in real life right now.
ME: "Hey, how are you?"
YOU: "We can get started. Stuff is never ready."
Phew.
This is a big one.
Are you a person that makes lists?
Maybe even someone who has lists of lists?
You have them on paper, post-its, in trello, jira, or whatever tool that helps you collect everything outside of your own mind.
So.

Many.
Lists.
Of.
Shit.
To.
START.
And... you never actually get started on any of it.
The Actionable Tip: Refine Today
Refine the stuff you think you want to do today.
What's that mean?
For me (when using this Scrum Framework thing at work with our clients and in our own operations for running the company), there is a great concept called "Product Backlog Refinement".
[ see refinement.mvizdos.com for some ideas around this topic and why it's so important in order to get stuff started and DONE ]
While it's not an official "event" in Scrum, it's one important concept so that when it IS time to plan and commit to our upcoming work...
We CAN actually get started.
Without circling the horses or the drain or staring into the abyss or having meetings to talk about future meetings.
With me?
So...
In the comments below, please share?ONE?actionable tip about how you can "refine today" in order to do less and become more productive.
Looking forward to learning something new from you.
Thank you.

10 个月It probably is a bit over the top, but my partner and I have started using an in house kanban board with the bigger items we want to get done in the week. When we can, we sit down and talk about the day in the morning, and she and I have actually felt more productive on those planned days. I think making lists is great, but having someone else there to keep you rooted in reality ("remember that we have XYZ for the kids today", etc) makes a huge difference in keeping the day from being overloaded.
