Refill Your Cup: 10 Simple Self-Love Practices For This Hectic Season
With only two months left in the year, many of us find ourselves running on empty, pouring our energy into careers, family, or that next big goal—often at the cost of our own well-being.
Think of it like a cup that’s been giving and giving, constantly emptied to fill others.
Yet, without a refill, even the strongest cup will eventually run dry.
From my own experience, November is the most hectic month of all. Between performance reviews, peak retail sales for Christmas, and end-of-year project deadlines, this period can drain us. And for those managing international portfolios, there’s even more pressure to prepare for Lunar New Year in January—coordinating with suppliers and vendors around blackout periods over Christmas and New Year’s.
It’s time to shift focus inward, to fill ourselves up again with the love, care, and compassion we so willingly extend to others.
Here are ten simple, heartfelt practices to help you nourish your own well-being and fill your own cup—one step at a time.
1. Practise Self-Compassion ??
Embrace both your strengths and imperfections. Treat yourself with the same patience and understanding you’d give to a close friend. Remind yourself daily: “I am enough.”
2. Do What Brings You Joy ??
Fill your days with hobbies or passions that make you feel alive. Whether it’s art, reading, or simply being outdoors, dedicate time to things that lift your spirit without any pressure to be “productive.”
3. Embrace the Present Moment ??
Practising mindfulness can keep you grounded. Take a moment to breathe deeply and soak in what’s around you. When you’re fully present, it’s easier to see beauty in the little things.
4. Seek Positive Relationships ??
Surround yourself with people who genuinely appreciate and support you. Allow yourself to receive kindness from others—it’s an important part of feeling loved.
5. Start a Gratitude Practice ??
Each day, jot down one or two things you’re grateful for. These can be big or small. Focusing on gratitude highlights the positive moments, fostering a sense of abundance.
6. Show Kindness to Others ??
Acts of kindness, no matter how small, have a way of coming back to us. Whether it’s a smile or helping someone out, giving love reminds us of the love within.

7. Care for Your Body ???
Self-love isn’t just emotional; it’s physical too. Make time for exercise, balanced meals, and rest. These small choices add up to a stronger, healthier you.
8. Practise Letting Go ??
Love is not about control. Accept that life is ever-changing, and release any need to force outcomes. When we let go of attachment, love can flow more freely.
9. Visualise Love Around You ?
Imagine yourself enveloped in a warm light, symbolising love and compassion. This “love bubble” can help you feel safe and centred, radiating kindness to others as well.
10. Forgive Yourself ??
Remember, we all make mistakes. Instead of holding onto guilt or regret, practise forgiveness. Letting go of past missteps lightens your load, making room for more love.
Final Thoughts
As the year winds down, take a moment to check in on your own “cup.” Is it running dry from all you’ve poured into others, or is it filled with the compassion and care you deserve?
Just as a cup needs regular refills to keep giving, we need to replenish our own reserves to continue showing up wholeheartedly for others and for ourselves.
Remember, filling yourself with love isn’t selfish—it’s essential. When you nourish your own well-being, you’re building a foundation from which you can give more generously, connect more deeply, and find joy in the journey.
Here’s to a heart that’s both full and resilient, ready to embrace the year’s end with renewed energy and gratitude.
Always fill your cup first, so you’re ready to pour out the best of yourself. ??
