Reepham Community Memorial
Last Saturday 15th June the memorial to those who made the ultimate sacrifice was unveiled at St. Mary's church in Reepham by Rose Barnes,Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk.
Over 80 people attended from all civil authorities as well as the local community. The new memorial honours not just those who have given their lives from the armed forces, but also those in non military service such as the police ,fire service and the NHS.
It was inspired by two local Reepham residents Trevor Bevan ,a former submariner and Bob Boothroyd who served in the army ,
I helped raise the £8,000 needed to make this happen. Support was given by donations from townsfolk, voluntary groups ,Lions, Rotary and other benefactors.
This is the first of the three charitable obligations I have made for this year ,the second will be donating £15,000 to the YMCA to help pay for counselling for young people leaving foster care at 16 (£10,500 raised so far through a raffle ) and then raising £3,000 each for Keeping Abreast and Eves Hill to be funded by my golf day in September and Carols With The King at The Forum in December.
Busy time ahead but it keeps me out of mischief!
