Redundant Wireless system between DCS & RIOs to Control room.

Project Requirement: -

To provide a reliable, secure & Redundant Wireless system to monitor the data of MWPH, CWPH RIO and Stacker-Reclaimer at a Thermal Power Plant.

Requirements: -

  • Redundant wireless link between CW pump RIOs and Unit#1 control room (Back up for FOC communication). If FOC link in interrupted, communication of CWPH should switch over to Wireless link without interruption.
  • Redundant wireless link between MWPH DDCMIS and unit CER#1
  •  Redundant Wireless Link between Stacker-Reclaimer PLC & Station LAN @ Unit CER#1

Challenges: -

  • Selection of devices suitable to each requirement specifically looking at data throughputs, data latency and data security, etc.
  • Covering 25 KM Distance for MWPH link
  • Selection of robust devices suitable for harsh environment in boiler & stacker machine areas.
  • Provision of vibration & shock certified devices in stacker.
  • Executing/ configuring the devices for seamless switchover with FOC in CWPH links.

Solutions details:

  • The Cambium Network systems are selected for wireless links of CWPH & MWPH. The Prosoft Technologies Radio systems are selected for installation at Stacker machines.
  • The systems are designed & operating in 5.8GHz band. Selection of frequency bands is done in such a way that all links can operate without mutual interference.
  • At MWPH station, 42 mtr tower was erected as per safety guidelines for tower structures and aviation related rules.
