Reducing The Risks – Keeping Your Business Safe Online.

Within any organization, security is paramount and having a digital footprint can also increase the risk of falling victim to cyber-attacks and other threats online. So how do we reduce these risks in order to keep the business safe from harm?

Teach Your Employees To Be Wary

Your business security is in one way affected by what your employees get up to throughout their working day. Whether it’s exploring a variety of different websites, some of which might not be safely encrypted or clicking on a suspicious link in an email that’s supposedly come from another colleague.

Teaching your employees to be wary of certain things they come across can be one way to tackle the risk of falling victim to a cyber attack or a phishing scam. Bring in some external training sessions to help educate your staff from those based on reception right up to those who sit as heads of department. Everyone is responsible, and therefore everyone should be trained in what to look out for and what to avoid.

Two-Step Verifications

Two-step verifications are something that’s been rolled out already to the general public, and we see it available on more confidential applications like online banking, emailing or paying contactless via your mobile phone. This adds an extra layer of protection to avoid danger, and now more businesses are implementing these systems to make sure financial transactions are processed safely and securely.

Having ProofID dashboard for Ping Identity is certainly useful for making sure everything is performing correctly and takes out a lot of the hard work of doing it yourself. You can never be too protective when it comes to your business security, so although these two-step verifications can often be annoying, it’s worth it for the peace of mind.

Use Stronger Passwords

Passwords are used by many staff members from the password they use to login to their work email, to the software systems that are used on a daily basis.

Most of us are likely to have similar or the same passwords for multiple accounts and although easy to remember, it also increases the risk that someone could hack the password and get into the account where confidential information is possibly be stored.

Use stronger passwords with higher complexity, opting for numbers, symbols, uppercase, and lowercase letters. Try avoiding any passwords that refer to the business and simple passwords that relate to the employee generating it.

Apply A Firewall

Every business should have a firewall in place on their servers to help protect the daily attempts from outside cyber attacks and hackers. Each firewall system is different, so it’s useful to do the research and find out what’s best for the business. Premium services of varying levels are also likely to be available to work out what’s best for your company.

It’s unfortunate that many businesses won’t do anything about their security until it’s too late, so use these tips to help protect your own company before it falls victim to any digital dangers.
