Reducing risk through online Well Integrity Training proves hugely successful for a major international operator.

Robust well integrity management requires minimising risk and one of the key elements for this is increasing staff competency through training.
In early 2020, I was contacted by a major international operator and asked for details of Well Integrity training courses. Over a period of several months, this enquiry grew in depth and complexity and became a significant well integrity training project.
Our client provided a wide range of company manuals and documents so we could structure the course to their standards and procedures. This added tremendous value to the course depth and structure as this client had at least 6 different well types configured on both horizontal and vertical Christmas trees located on their offshore platforms in addition to a multitude of subsea wells.
The wells featured a considerable range of geological issues such as pressure and temperature, high flow rates, and a complex range of reservoir fluids that had to be built into rugged well completions, designed for economic hydrocarbon recovery as well as meaningful data gathering to allow for well integrity management processes to be followed to a very high standard.
The final course contained over 15 different modules delivered over a 3-day period. A considerable amount of planning and thought had gone into creating a ‘classroom’ for the attendees that would foster a learning environment. This was achieved by using an engaging approach that coupled high-resolution graphics and a document camera to demonstrate the different well types and their construction features, along with moving 2D models of key well construction components to show how various components worked and the value they added to the well integrity process.
The attendee feedback clearly showed that the attention to detail had paid off marking a definitive course style and recipe that fitted the new online process in this global COVID environment. The course in different forms has now been given to several additional clients.
It is vital that best practice is shared across the industry to protect the safety of the staff and the integrity of wells. The more courses we run, the more knowledge is shared making the industry a safer and more robust place to be. International Well Integrity collaborates with major operators to build knowledge internationally regardless of country, size of well or a person’s role within a company. Safety and knowledge sharing is paramount.

3 年Simon Sparke, totally agree with your quote "It is vital that best practice is shared across the industry to protect the safety of the staff and the integrity of wells", despite the restrictions imposed by the current public health situation. Similar approach has been taken by "rp-2" Dave Taylor, John Sands with the "on-line" or "virtual" - DWOP / CWOP / LWOP workshops, with outstanding results. We want to help with this initiative in Colombia and LATAM, using several IT tools to get the participation of the experts of the industry, regardless their location or working language; We have started webinars with simultaneous translation English / Spanish with very good results.
