Reduce Scrap and Shot-to-Shot Inconsistency

Reduce Scrap and Shot-to-Shot Inconsistency

Custom Xaloy? Screw Design Drops Injection Molding Scrap Rate by 80%

The correct selection of screw diameter is critical to processing high quality parts with minimal scrap. When the screw and barrel cannot produce enough shot capacity to mold larger parts successfully, upsizing the components may be required.?

For one customer, Xaloy provided a custom upsized screw, barrel, endcap and valve system that reduced part weight inconsistencies and lowered their scrap rate by 80%.

THE CHALLENGE

An automotive injection molding manufacturer in south Asia experienced problems when molding products with a shot weight greater than 30 grams, resulting in short shots and a 10% scrap rate. They were processing polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and polyamide (PA) with 25-35% glass filler in a Milacron Roboshot injection molding machine with a 22mm 20:1 general purpose screw. Turning to Xaloy?, they asked for a solution that would increase their shot capacity and decrease scrap rate.

Luckily, Xaloy had the right solution for them. [click to continue reading...]
