Redesign With Reason: Why and How?

Redesign With Reason: Why and How?

Tourism is a billion-dollar industry, with many thriving economies depending upon it. People may make traveling more convenient by using one of the many various adventure travel applications. Travel apps help to bridge the communication gap, make bookings more accessible, and allow travel to places independently.

Trip LV is a Latvian startup that has an ambitious idea. With their road trip app, you can plan your trip across Latvia, optimize your route, or make it truly unique, thanks to 13 available categories of stops. Also, this road travel app makes it possible to share your road trips with your friends.

Trip LV has decided to redesign its app to facilitate expansion to other countries.

To accommodate future updates, it was necessary to enhance the design and ensure user-friendliness. Our team was tasked with improving the existing app, fixing existing problems, and making it more user-friendly.

The app must undertake the latest design trends to be up and running in the long run.

A user-friendly travel app is important for several reasons:

  1. Provides a positive user experience: Users can quickly find what they need, make reservations, and get recommendations, making their travel experience more enjoyable.
  2. Encourages user retention: This means that the app can build loyalty among users and encourage them to use it again and again for future travel needs.
  3. Enhances the brand image: A good travel app that is easy to use, visually appealing, and offers relevant features can help improve the brand image of a travel company.
  4. Increases revenue: The easier for users to book travel, the more likely they are to do so.
  5. Supports accessibility: A user-friendly travel app can support accessibility needs by providing features like voice recognition, text-to-speech, and easy-to-navigate menus. This can help travelers with disabilities or impairments make reservations and plan trips more easily.

Focus was on redesigning the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX)

Our primary objective was to redesign the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) with the aim of improving usability while driving. We pinpointed several significant issues with the app, such as outdated design, dysfunctional and poorly positioned buttons, confusing Place and Route pages, and a logically flawed My routes and Purchased route flow. Additionally, we discovered that users encountered difficulty changing their passwords and initiating and concluding their saved routes.

How we have solved problems?

To solve these issues, we started by creating a modern design system that would improve the overall look and feel of the app. Then changed the logic of the placement of icons and added a Profile details section where users can change their data and password. We also completely redesigned the Place and Route in the list pages to make them more user-friendly and easy to understand. Our team changed the flow for My routes and Purchased route, making it more logical and intuitive.

Finally, we added the Start route and Finish route buttons in the necessary places to make it easier for users to start and finish their saved routes.

Design thinking model in design

Our design process is based on the Design thinking model. It is a methodology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems:

  • Emphasize
  • Define
  • Ideate
  • Prototype

Overall, we are thrilled with the results of this redesign. We believe that our changes have made the Trip LV travel app much more user-friendly and accessible to everyone. If you are planning a trip to Latvia, we highly recommend downloading the app and giving it a try.
