Redemption Song for Redemption Times

On June 3rd my son went under GA for a planned surgery. Although everyone around assured me "he was in good hands" I did have butterflies in my stomach while waiting for the procedure to finish.
Spotify to the rescue, I got myself distracted with a playlist when Redemption Song from Bob Marley started playing. I was instantly moved by the song, which brought up some good memories but also made me realize the power of the lyrics.

According to Marley's story shared at www.udiscoverymusic.com and other websites, this song - although unconventional to his style - deeply shared the Jamaican influence message of harmony, spirit and resistance. It was written during his final years, while in pain and with death in his mind. Still, he wanted to share his message, not only reflecting on his own feelings, but also of strength and hope.
I suddenly thought of the world and what COVID-19 has brought, thought of my family members in Brazil and how they're adapting to these times of uncertainty, challenge and hope. As the magazine interprets the lyrics, "your existence is not defined by the world powers, by destructiveness, by evil; your purpose is not dictated to by the mighty, but by the Almighty. Your heroes may die, you may be oppressed, you may feel you can’t prevent the wrong things happening, but the universe is bigger than that. Join this song. You have the power to free your mind and soul. You can be redeemed."

Redemption Song is considered inspirational, a timeless anthem and for a good reason. It teaches us how to deal with adverse circumstances which are not in our power. Just like I had to wait powerless for my son to wake up that day, just like Marley had to acknowledge his cancer destiny, just like so many of us are facing painful life changing times... There's the call for emancipation, highlighting our freedom is inside our mind and nobody else can take it from us. We're brought to situations we have no or low power about and it's up to us to stay fearless and deal with those adversities with a positive mind. It all shall pass.
