Redefining Yoga
Yoga is not about handstands, splits, or yoga pants. It's not about how flexible you are or how long you can hold a pose. Yoga, at its core, is about mindfulness, focus, clarity, and truly living in the present moment. Unfortunately, modern-day yoga has become inverted in many ways. Priorities have shifted. When most people think of yoga, they think of physical stretching or advanced poses. While physicality is indeed a part of yoga, it is merely preparation for the true practice — the yoga of the mind.
It's time we return to the basics and rediscover yoga's lost teachings. Yoga is fundamentally a mental discipline. These ancient principles and practices are not only still relevant, but more important than ever. In a rapidly advancing technological world, cultivating mindfulness through yoga can dramatically enhance your relationship with technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), and improve the overall quality of your life.
A mentor once shared with me, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” I am inviting you to shift your perspective on yoga. You may even discover that you've been practicing yoga without realizing it.
Let me share something profound to illustrate how perception shapes reality: the Harvard Mindful Exercise Study. Conducted by Harvard University's psychology department, this groundbreaking experiment demonstrated the astonishing power of perception. The study involved hotel maids, dividing them into two groups. Half the maids were educated about how their daily tasks counted as physical exercise, while the other half were told nothing at all. The only variable changed was perception. Remarkably, despite all the maids continuing the same routine, the group that perceived their work as exercise experienced measurable improvements in their health and well-being. Truly, when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
