Redefining Housing for a Lifetime: The Vision Behind Ageless Homes

Redefining Housing for a Lifetime: The Vision Behind Ageless Homes

For decades, housing in the U.S. has largely been viewed in a static way: a place to build, sell, and live in. But today, it’s time to examine how well this idea actually serves people. Beyond the vital issues of affordability and availability, we need to look closely at functionality.

Imagine a home where you can live comfortably, no matter your age or physical abilities—a home where you welcome guests with ease, without ever worrying about accessibility, inclusivity, or accommodations. Now ask yourself: does today’s “standard” home design truly support this vision? Unfortunately, the answer is no.

Current home designs often lack inclusive features, optimized product placement, psychological consideration for lighting, color, and spatial layout. Healthy consideration for clean air exchange, low VOC paint, chemical free carpet to name a few. Why is this still the case?

With over 35 years in healthcare and housing for the aging population, I’ve seen firsthand how people’s needs shift over time. That experience inspired me to focus on Ageless Design?—creating homes that serve all ages and abilities seamlessly. Over the past decade, I’ve shared this concept with industry professionals through CE courses, presentations at the International Builders Show, healthcare conferences, and various businesses.

Now, as America faces an unprecedented demographic shift, conversations about aging in place and universal design are finally making headlines at the top. Many builders promote “forever homes” with features like grab bars or wide doorways, but we’re far past these minimal updates. We need a foundational shift—a new standard that incorporates accessibility, inclusivity and thoughtful design from the ground up, not as optional upgrades or afterthoughts.

Consider this: at the annual Parade of Homes in my area, one builder promoted “universal design” for a “forever home.” But in touring the property, I found numerous features that fell short. Here are just 2 examples, the door from the mudroom to the garage was so heavy it took two people to open, and the steps leading upstairs were steep and shallow— hardly ideal for people with mobility challenges, young children and guests.

This experience reaffirmed why I founded Ageless Homes. Our mission is to set a new benchmark in housing—building homes that are genuinely inclusive for all people, at any age and ability level by including features that are essential, not just upgrades. Ageless Design also supports the Fall Prevention movement. We’re addressing real needs in both the residential and senior living markets.

2025 - 2026, we’ll be unveiling our first Ageless Home? community, showcasing the thoughtful design, inclusivity, and functionality that set us apart. It’s time for bold ideas and different perspectives. Let’s build homes for life—homes that embrace everyone.

Please reach out to me if you'd like to add to this movement. Thank You.

Be bold. Be different. Be Ageless.
