REDEFINE to Excel - HNY 2025 !

To start with a confession, I never believed in the concept of “Déjà vu”.

But, I must also confess that I am habituated now of using this phrase very often while talking to my teams ?- during almost every delivery escalation situation ??

Let’s come back to the word “Déjà vu”.

This midnight, having seen thru the 366 days of this year, I am forced to say that 2024 was a “Déjà vu” of sorts.

Surprisingly, during 2024, there were elections across 60 countries covering 50% of world population. But, about 70% incumbent governments lost their power and their opponents reclaimed the proverbial Sceptre.

We had witnessed much exciting redemption stories –

• During 2024, The crown of most valuable company in the world has become a recurring story between NVIDIA, Apple and Microsoft.
• During 2024, The age old Ayodhya mandir got the Lord Ram Lalla reinstated in a 51-inch idol of Lord Rama in a charming child form
• During 2024, India Cricket team’s T20 cricket world cup triumph with the help of that one over of bowling mastery by Bumrah, followed by another 5 overs of sheer discipline and perseverance.
• During 2024, Trump has rewritten the history to win the US presidency again, grabbing the victory from a near impossible situation when he started, by pulling out every trick from his hat.
• During 2024, 75 year old CBN reemerged triumphant in what could have been his last election had he lost it, by giving everything that he can offer to win this time. No better, redemption story than this one.
• During 2024, we heard about “China shock 2.0” rekindling the trade wars across nations, with China pushing the over production to their advantage.
• During 2024, we have seen the resurgence of Gen AI, taking it into board room conversations, while the concept of AI has been there with us since last 50 years.

While these redemption stories demonstrate that “history repeats” kind of concept, but careful analysis will tell us that these feats are neither a repeat nor serendipity.

Each of these stories demonstrate how teams, companies, nations or individuals had to REDEFINE – REIMAGINE the possibilities, REORDER the boundaries, REINVENT their game and REDEEM what they deserve, to get these results. More importantly, these are stories of carefully rebuilding oneself from the failures and telling us that ‘you need to change your fortunes yourself’.

So, the relevant question to ask each day is “are we just repeating yesterday or ‘evolving’ from the past?”.

Because, each day, we have a choice to either Repeat or REDEFINE ourselves. ?

Let’s REDEFINE to Excel, because each of us always deserve better than yesterday.
