Naturally, many AI startups looked to Reddit for their information needs. There's just one problem: not all of them asked for permission.

Reddit has now announced that it's locking down its data, only giving access to companies that make licensing deals. That means if AI startups want Reddit's sweet user data, they'll have to cough up some cash.
This was technically already Reddit's policy, but until now, it hasn't been well-enforced. Some large companies like Google and OpenAI already have deals in place with Reddit, so they won't have experience any disruptions.
