Reddit Prepares to Go Public

1. As Reddit prepares to go public on the New York Stock Exchange the company revealed more about its advertising business in its filing documents.

The platform has 267.5 million weekly active users globally, 131 million of whom are in the US.

Reddit explained that its advertising is built around contextual targeting and user interest, which Reddit expects will become more valuable to advertisers as third-party cookies are phased out of Google Chrome later this year.

The company also sees an opportunity for them to focus more on facilitating and “monetizing commerce” in the near future.

2. Google announced a significant organic search ranking update for March. The goal is to “surface the most helpful information on the web and reduce unoriginal content in search results”. Google projected a 40% reduction in what they deem to be low-quality search results. This could include websites created primarily to match specific search queries, often monetized through affiliate links.
