Red Rocks, A Healthy Relationship, and Getting Your Life on Track
"I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something.
So that's my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody's ever made before. Don't freeze, don't stop, don't worry that it isn't good enough, or it isn't perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.
Whatever it is you're scared of doing, Do it.
Make your mistakes, next year and forever."
I’m too old for this shit. On Tuesday night this week, we connected with about 15 friends and headed to Red Rocks to see Jackson Browne. If you are not familiar with Red Rocks, it’s a concert venue located in Morrison, CO just outside of Denver.
Morrison is the address of our new home, the view you see from Red Rocks is the same view you see from our new home.
Last night we returned to Red Rocks to see Trampled by Turtles. I’ve never heard of this band, but I will say there were pretty amazing. You might want to check out this “new to me”fantastic band.
I was listening to a podcast yesterday, and the topic was marriage. How to keep your marriage or relationship in tip top shape. As one that had a failed marriage, I listened intently to the message.
According to this expert, a couple needs 19 minutes a week of alone time. Talking about life, bringing each other up to speed. Also, one date a week is necessary to keep the relationship stoked.
He talked about being single and the ability for one today to skip most of the old style traditional mating and by swiping right or left, you can find a sex partner. I’ve never used an app for sex; I’m sure some of my readers have, it seems like a weird way to hook up, but it’s the world in which we live.
Being single for a time might be alright, but we as humans are created to find a mate. If you think about one rope and it’s strength vs. two ropes bound together, the two ropes are much stronger than a single rope.
Life is hard, so if you have two brains instead of one, you are at an advantage. Life is full of sacrifices and concessions to one’s partner; it’s the Ying and Yang of what makes a couples life experience.
I’m in love, and I’ve never been more in love. My partner and I have been on a good run, and I think it has to do with how we communicate. We are incredibly open with each other; we fight rarely, we learned that using truth over harmony is good for us.
We have some of our terrific friends in from Indiana. We helped them check off Red Rocks from their bucket list. They are going to be in town a few days, so we’re heading to Boulder to show off one of our favorite Colorado communities.
It’s been a hell of a week, my body is screaming for rest, but like that guy said in Roadhouse, “I’ll sleep when I’m dead.”
I hope this message finds you living the life you dream. I hope these words resonate and you can see a little hope for your relationship with your significant other. I hope your world is filled with friends and adventure and you crash into bed each night and wake with passion.
I live a charmed, blessed, extraordinary life and I am a culmination of my experiences on this flying blue ball. If you don’t love your life, own your shit and start to figure it out. It is never too late to get back on track; it is never too late to change your life. Today, think about one little thing you can do to get your life screaming towards the life you want and the life you deserve.
