Red Hat Storage solutions move to IBM

Dear IBM Storage & Red Hat Business Partners

I am pleased to share some very exciting IBM Storage news with you that, earlier today (October 4th, 2022), IBM and Red Hat jointly announced that Red Hat’s Ceph and OpenShift Data Foundation (ODF) storage solutions are moving to the IBM Storage division – bringing the very best in both Open Source and Commercial offerings in the Software Defined Storage marketplace together under a single organization and go-to-market.

This allows both organizations to focus on what they do best and enables IBM Storage customers to accelerate their hybrid multi-cloud journey knowing their data services, data protection, data security and cyber resilience – are in the most trusted pair of hands in the industry.

I love how Denis Kennelly (General Manager, IBM Storage) put it?[LINK].??As a?result of this portfolio integration, we are able to deliver?. . .

"Hardware-agnostic storage services that truly redefine hybrid cloud storage for applications and data across bare metal, virtualized and containerized environments.”

With the transfer of business, IBM Storage inherits some fantastic development talent to complement our existing team and, in so doing, accelerates data services integration and innovation for OpenShift, OpenStack and other Kubernetes-based platforms.??There’ll be much more to come on the roadmap in the coming months, so stay tuned.

For our existing IBM Storage partners, I hope you’re as excited about this as I am.??This represents an incredible opportunity to be at the heart of the container revolution – removing barriers to adoption that result from a lack of skills and/or architectural focus onstorage requirements for hybrid multi-cloud environments.

For our Red Hat partners – first let me extend my warmest welcome.??Whilst we’re a little different on this side of the fence, we are absolutely committed to our Ecosystem.??I am confident you will see that commitment in action and that you will find our programs comprehensive, transparent, and enriching.??Of course, there will be some changes ahead, but there is also an enormous opportunity to expand your own business through a greatly widened aperture with IBM Storage (and beyond).

In the short-term it will be “business as usual” however, in order to hit the ground running in 1Q23, I invite those Red Hat partners who are not yet IBM Storage partners to join us by signing an IBM Business Partner Agreement and actively engaging in our enablement programs.??Contact your Value-added Distributor and they can help you through every step.

A replay of Denis’ all-hands call from October 3rd, 2022 is available for our Partners here?[LINK]?[1].

You will no doubt have many questions and we will work to ensure they are answered.??To that end, we have placed a “living FAQ” in Seismic here?[LINK] [1].??You can bookmark or?Follow?to receive notifications when updates are posted.??If you still have questions, please contact your IBM Storage sales team, Partner Representative or Value-Added Distributor so we can capture/respond and add to the FAQ.

From edge-to-core-to-cloud?and back again, IBM Storage has you covered.??I look forward to sharing more about our plans for 2023 and beyond.??In the meantime, I wish you great success for the remainder of 2022 with both your Red Hat and IBM Storage practices.

Craig McKenna - Vice President, IBM Worldwide Storage Ecosystem Sales
