ROBERT F. RODRIGUEZ and THE RED BEAR

Imagine for one horrible moment, empty sporting arenas, no fans just players, entertainment venues, no fans just entertainers. To those of us in the business, it's not difficult to envision. Every entertainer, at one time or another, during their career has performed without an audience.

I prefer not to boast, humility is my preference, especially when a young man has and continues to work his tail off. Of course, parents, of which I am one, have bragging rights when it comes to the achievements of their kids. But this is not one of those times.

My wife and I have traveled most of the U.S. and internationally with our sons, supporting and managing their music projects. While it's tempting to write about them and their many achievements and experiences, we desire to take time to acknowledge people. Those incredible folks we've come to know and love through our music journey.

This weekend, in route to a Kansas City gig, my son, Robert F. Rodriguez and I stopped at Topeka's 'SUPERSONIC MUSIC' to pick up some equipment. I was unaware that Rob had been endorsed by yet another incredible instrument manufacturer, OMETE CYMBALS.

We were absolutely stunned and delighted when we heard the clean sound of Rob's new cymbals cutting through the music to add a fresh dimension, welcome dynamic.

As I watched Rob excitedly display his new cymbals, nostalgia took hold. Rob began his professional music journey when he was just nine years old.

It's natural for folks to want to credit parents for their children's successes and we appreciate that, but our sons deserve most of the credit. In Rob's case, he has worked tirelessly since he started. In a brief conversation this weekend he brought back great memories when he said, 'You know, Dad, I've always fed off my fans. So many have helped me along the way. They deserve credit and respect.' Typical Rob.

I was motivated to write this rock song:

RED

Sitting on the mantel of the great CAUSE

High on the beats of the bass drum

Where we gather one or more each place ?

Every human life story

Red white blue international glory

The prophet [vocalist] speaks to those that gather

?

Nearly everywhere to hear tunes and songs rather

It’s notes and melody twisted DNA

Strings beats and the master where people say

?

One or more nostalgic energy born in hearing

What hope is there in life’s mission bearing

The reward isn’t monetary wealth

Or just making a living

??

Sitting on the mantel of the great CAUSE

High on the beats of the bass drum

Where we gather one or more each place ?

?

The wise folks youth at their side

Elders and ancestries giving birth to futures stride

Nomads know peaceful folks everywhere

?

Pulled aside for a moment divide

Where did you learn such handsome skills

I’ve not heard CAUSE before

Don’t know how to express passions I hide

?

What can I gift that won’t be forgot

I’m just me not worth a lot

But God says different telling me not

?

Sitting on the mantel of the great CAUSE

High on the beats of the bass drum

Where we gather one or more each place ?

?

You see this is the story of the CAUSE music fan

We’ve never played quiet iconic rock band

Always someone to hear and appreciate

?

Here he’s all I’ve got

Take him and put him

On your bass drum mantal for time’s sake

?

He existed before Jerry Garcia ties sold

An original reminder of fans like me

If one or more valued all the same

?

Sitting on the mantel of the great CAUSE

High on the beats of the bass drum

Where we gather one or more each place ?

?

He has no name to say

Except everyone that’s ever

Heard CAUSE sing and play

?

The writer by observation

Attached his dye Red

He’s a vintage character

?

Sitting on the band’s heartbeat

Is the humble CAUSE bear

Many see few barely notice

?

Among Grateful Dead’s originals, Red Bears

Color pure fan collectible, CAUSE for the ages ?

Rock music human nature spirits souls too

?
