Red & Blue

I wrote this poem this morning reflecting about today.
Red and blue
Colors true in the spectral wave of light
Hues used to define and divide who we are
Representing blood and air; the life force of a nation
One right
One left
One good that serves the people
One bad that serves the self
Topics worn on one's sleeve exposing the frayed threads of American civility
Tensions, trump common sense, as one group asserts itself over another
Intentionally placed barriers limit access for those wanting to exercise rights that are often denied
Red and blue
A hideous abstract painting of the ugliness in this land
Oppressive laws, remain death-gripped within fragile white hands, are reluctantly let go after racism's poison has spread throughout the land
Women's health has become less about their gender and more about the words a man wrote centuries ago to gain religious favors
We the people should honor the contributions of all, giving voice to a future of unity and not one that continues to tear us apart.
