Run the gauntlet!

I can't tell you enough how true that phrase has been this past month and a half. This launch has been nothing but run after run. Re-do after re-do. Calibrating and re-calibrating just to get to the vision that I had for Red Bird (a fun book designed to address anxiety in kids).

You guys saw the options I was given. I needed a higher standard. A better standard. One that kids (and adults) would love to pick up and read over and over again. I didn't just want one and done washed up quality, I wanted something that would engage kids to really understand the power of their thoughts and enable them to have tools to combat their anxiety in a simple and easy-to-use way.

But I also needed completed work for a live reading at an elementary school tomorrow. No pressure, right?

Writing a book may seem like the hard part, but it's really the backend of things that test how committed you are to see yourself through.

I had a launch date for today, Monday, May 23rd, and if not for my inner circle of trusted colleagues. I would still be running the gauntlet.

I sent a copy of the formatted work to my mentor on Friday morning, and she quickly vetoed it, called me, and said, they don't see your vision. Later that day, she sent me a re-formatted print-ready version. Y'all I did not ask her to do this. I was literally in joyful tears. Everything that I had asked the original formatters to do, she did without even seeing my notes to them.

Those final seconds in the gauntlet, she carried for me. Here's to running the gauntlet with your community!
