Recycling blight in London

The Evening Standard was right to highlight the abysmal record of recycling with high density not really an excuse given many other global cities like those in East Asia have both much higher density levels and higher recycling rates from their household. Nor is it going to be a useful exercise parading the best and worst London Local Authorities in recycling as clearly the issues are London wide and a lot more regional than we care to acknowledge.

We have sadly been here before with the other administrations at City Hall under Ken Livingstone & Boris Johnson when Mayor of London. Ken Livingstone was keen to get these additional powers under New Labour when David Miliband was at DEFRA but it was not to be. With the Boris Johnson administration coming to a similar conclusion but again being turned down this time by a Tory government.

We should at least add to the lists of new devolved powers to Regional & London government which gives the Mayor powers to better coordinate waste disposal across the 32 boroughs and streamline collection would be a good start in the first place for the present Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan at the beginning of his third term.
