RECYCLE A MOBILE THIS SUMMER AND DO SOME GOOD

We all have one; a little rough around the edges, not as cool as they used to be, or maybe you’ve upgraded to the latest model, they are simply old, broken, and unwanted. I'm talking about mobiles, millions in fact.

Around Australia there are almost 5 million old mobile phones which are no longer working, along with their chargers and accessories, begging to be lifted out of the junk drawer and be put to better use, which is exactly what Australians can do this summer.

MobileMuster and OzHarvest have teamed up to give Australians a great reason to recycle their mobiles this summer. For every mobile recycled we will deliver a meal to someone in need.

The campaign, Mobile for a Meal, returns for a second year after a hugely successful recycling drive last summer, where 60,000 meals were delivered simply by people recycling their unwanted mobiles, this year we are aiming to recycle 70,000 and help deliver 70,000 meals to those in need.

A lot of these phones no longer work, unusable and can hold no resale value, but by simply recycling them 99% of the material can go back into making new products. The important thing to remember here is that mobile phones are not biodegradable, plus they contain substances and materials that could potentially harm the environment.

It’s very easy to recycle mobile phones with over 3,5000 public collection points around Australia, including all major mobile retailers like Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Virgin Mobile and Samsung stores.

There are now more than 3.6 million people experiencing food insecurity each year.  OzHarvest do great work to deliver to good, nutritious food to people in need, but many agencies say they could take double to keep up with the demand.

Getting involved in the Mobile for a Meal campaign is simple:

  • Register your organisation if they aren't already by visiting mobilemuster.com.au
  • Promote the campaign to your staff and customers and encourage them to bring their unwanted mobiles to work and have them recycled during the campaign along with any accessories
  • Download resources to help you promote the campaign from mobilemuster.com.au including the campaign poster, social media tiles and a short video
  • Just make sure to send in your collections before the end of February 2018 to be a part of Mobile for a Meal

Everything collected by MobileMuster is recycled. The program never resells anything and any data left on devices is destroyed in the recycling process. For more, including our terms and conditions visit our website.
