Recursive ordinal inscriptions are going to unlock so many new use cases on #Bitcoin

Prepare to have your mind blown ??

The Ordinals team just released what might be the biggest change to the protocol since its inception.

Most importantly: Inscriptions will now be able to reference other inscriptions ??????

Many are citing this update as a quality-of-life improvement for NFT creators. And that is true!?

Instead of inscribing 10,000 images as part of a new PFP collection, you just could inscribe a photo of each unique trait, which might be a couple hundred images at most.

From there, you could inscribe 10,000 bits of code that would “build” the PFP by referencing the trait photos that were inscribed.

[Generally, it’s much cheaper to inscribe a bit of code than it is to inscribe an image]

For example, OnChainMonkey 's upcoming Dimensions references multiple files such as to construct a 3D file. Normally, each 3D file would take up a ton of space.

But in this case, each one takes up less than 1KB ??

That’s awesome!

But this update is so much bigger than that.

Here’s a prime example ??

You can inscribe anything on Bitcoin - even an HTML file.

An HTML file, the backbone of the web, usually references other files. When you visit a website, it might pull dozens or even hundreds of additional assets. Things like image files, javascript files, css files, etc!

Right now, the Ordinals protocol has protections in place to prevent pulling external assets.

This is in large part a security measure. It would otherwise be very easy to inscribe an HTML file that pulls in things like Google Analytics for tracking, or actual malicious files!

But with this new update, an inscribed HTML file could easily pull in something like an inscribed JPG using this simple bit of code:

<img src=”/content/InscriptionIDGoesHere”>

[Importantly, you need to use the inscription ID and not the inscription number)

With recursion, even the most complex websites could now technically be hosted on #Bitcoin

Just a one-time cost to inscribe, and your website is hosted forever on the most immutable and decentralized network in the world ??

Just like this simple example ??

What other use cases can you think of?

We’d love to hear them! ??
