Recruitment Surprises and Tips - Part II

Recruitment Surprises and Tips - Part II

After successfully completing my project on "Social Media as a Tool for Recruitment" at Numeric India, they offered me the role of Management Trainee in HR in April 2017. Waste no time, the day after college ended, I eagerly joined as Trainee HR on April 8, 2017. My journey kicked off as part of the Talent Acquisition team during my induction phase, marking the beginning of my real-world experience in recruitment.

?

In the realm of recruitment, every company deals with Freshers, Lateral, and Third-party hiring. My initial task was to hire UPS service engineers for a Third-party role. Typically, Manpower Requisition forms would come in from regional offices, sometimes with shortlisted candidates, or we'd assist in finding suitable candidates. For junior-level candidates in regional offices, we conducted telephonic/Skype interviews and wrapped it up.

?

One day, I screened a candidate and shared the resume with my technical team in Pune. The first-level technical round was completed via a Skype call, and for the second round, he was supposed to meet the team in Chennai along with the Service Head. The technical team informed me that he was ready for the next level interview.

?

I reached out to the candidate and informed him that he was "Selected." Excitedly, he assumed he got the job and booked his tickets to Pune for the upcoming week. He even sent me his train tickets on WhatsApp. However, anxiety set in as he still had another interview in Chennai before moving to Pune.

Swiftly, I informed my boss, explained the situation, and he supported me in arranging an in-person interview at the regional office, ensuring everything was sorted before the booking date.I vividly recall the day when I was sincerely praying for his success, given that he had already booked his tickets.

Once the dust settled, my boss called and explained me on the big difference between being "Shortlisted" and "Selected." The gravity of these terms in the context of hiring became crystal clear.

To this day, I approach every hiring process, from campus to lateral, with utmost care. Furthermore, I recognize the importance of explaining our end-to-end hiring process to candidates to alleviate any unnecessary anxiety they might carry throughout the process.

As Part 2 concludes, stay tuned for Part 3, where I'll share more surprises from the world of recruitment and offer additional tips that can benefit both fresh HR enthusiasts and experienced professionals alike.

To the point Karthick…. As you said understanding the terminologies and communicating to the candidates is an integral part of Recruiting which most of the recruiters have to learn.
