Recruitment Radar - Issue 3

Recruitment Radar - Issue 3

Hey Hey!

Good to be back here again with you. The assignment is to share a newsletter with you, specifically for recruiters and recruitment leaders.

It contains the "best" of the posts on LinkedIn I've "saved for later" from the week before. I'm in Liverpool for the next couple of days, so.... I'm getting straight to it.

Posts are hyperlinked to the titles. Here we go! ??????

Top "5"

Saves from last week

  1. The eight-point behaviour stack by Jeremy Snell

It's a punchy 40-minute LinkedIn Live recording from last week. Expect an expertly-led session - which will give you a framework for success in recruitment, and anything else you want to apply it to.

Like many things in life, "what sets people apart is the willingness to do it. Only you know if you’re going to do it. And still be doing it in six months" says Jeremy.

It's true. If you are ready to commit to your success and, want some direction on how to set about doing it? Grab a pen and paper, and get on with it.

What I love about this is, it's not a self-proclaimed influencer pitching their system for their version of success in life. It's a framework for you and the success you want to have. As Jeremy says,

"You are the best version of you in the world, and as soon as you compromise being you, and you try to become someone else? You become the second-best version of them (at the very best)."

2. Do you use Boolean as a Recruiter or Sourcer?

Welcome to Gabi Preston-Phypers ?? the most enthusiastic, engaging, and passionate Boolean expert there is. Follow her!

I completely believe our edge in life is what we do as humans and not what we automate through tech. Some say complacency is a killer, but I suspect our pursuit of convenience will trump it.

"With 60% of candidates undiscoverable using filters, anyone still sitting using filters knowing this fact is saying to the world they are OK with not being inclusive. If you venture into Boolean, as you should, then make sure it's smart Boolean ... not the dumb stuff that falls out of a billion prompts with chatgpt and some AI tools. Let's go hunting!!!"

3. *** The magic of the ‘Rever$e Market’ ***

Greg Savage is back again this week with a full breakdown on Reverse Marketing. AKA speccing, snipering, candidate marketing, spec sends, send outs.

This is an essential back-to-basics post on a brilliant tactic IF done with skill, purpose, and intention. Greg will walk you through the broader benefits, and how to do it.

4. Interestingly, Simon Monaghan wrote a post this week There are two types of recruiters: machine gunners and snipers. This will hold the mirror up and help you see which approach you are taking. Adjust accordingly!

5. How to cancel more meetings and prevent bad meetings from happening

Dave Kline asked 155,000 leaders to describe the best meetings they've ever attended or led. One word that kept coming up? Cancelled. If you feel the same and want to cancel or improve meetings, have a read of this one.

6. Akbar Karenga wrote a similar piece a few months ago "I bloody hate meetings for so many different reasons but since I need money to buy things (capitalism) I have come up with some basic hacks."

If you've come across Akbar before (and you should), you'll already know two awesome things about him

1. He works out how to get tech to work for him and make life easier

2. He is a master connector and introducer of people.

7. Clean Rooms, Empty Beds: Why Great Recruiters Need Expertise, Not Just Hustle

Last week, I got to thinking about diversity in NEDs in the recruitment sector. I can think of a handful if I squint my eyes and scrunch my face up. So it was good to see Alison Humphries Hon FREC pop up on my feed. This is one more for business owners, Alison draws some nice parallels between running a recruitment business and hospitality. The 3 main barriers are: leaders burdening themselves with the bulk of the workload, lack of visibility in the market, and dysfunctional business partnerships. It's a good read for holding the mirror up and seeing what might be in front of you.

That's a wrap.

I know 7 cheeky posts!

Apologies, it's school holidays still, which means the LIFE volume dials up significantly, and 7 posts were easier to share than reducing to 5. Back to BAU next week.

As ever, there is some blinding content out there, once you get past the thumb ache of selfies and self-promotion. You really do get to know who the quality creators are and the credibility attached to this is huge!

As far as a newsletter goes, let me know what you think.

Subscribe, and share it with someone you think might get value from content specifically for recruiters and recruitment leaders - and if you're interested in posts that offer a particular type of content? I'd love to know.

Want to know what I saved, and didn't share? Keep reading for the unedited list and why I saved it. I've linked to the posts so you can jump in for more. ??

If you have a post you think I should be looking at, or giving a take on, forward it to my inbox or tag me in Clair Mohamed - Migsy so I see it.

Subscribe to stay on the radar!

The ones I didn't share

Should I have included them in more detail?

  • Three secrets to massively increase a sales email's success Ryan McCabe great tips, we've come to expect this.
  • We have a retention issue (Again) packed with data, links, and a compelling view on the issues of retention by James Hornick of Hirewell
  • 5 words: “LinkedIn isn’t a sales platform.” By Tom Boston I could link so much of Tom's content. Funny videos, that you can totally relate to. This post is a reminder to build a brand on socials, not just sell. It's another post I've saved that I realise is talking about fun.
  • Secrets to a Perfect Discovery Call I'm not keen on the title, considering it's a post that links to no less than 27 other people sharing their tips. Expect duplication, some nonsense, and probably some gems. The trick is to not follow this stuff blindly. EXPERIMENT and see what works for you.
  • I had a cold call from a contract killer the other day Funny and witty post by Tom Wish it shows how cringe is it when you call someone and don't know what it you are selling. You have no idea how often I see this in action.
  • This cold email made me look. Josh Braun asks, "What was it that made me look?" If you take the time to read this, extract the principles and apply it, I think you'll find this works a treat!
  • How to give praise at work It's more than just "Great Job" or putting someone on a pedestal. Comes from the Radical Candor writer Kim Scott
