Recruitment Exposed
Those of you that know myself and the way that I work will probably understand that I take recruitment to be a very personal thing. In my opinion, we are first and foremost here to help our clients and candidates secure long lasting relationships through tailored placements.
However, there is a worrying trend within the Recruitment community where the likes of Wolf of Wall Street's Jordon Belfort, have become the poster boys for an industry, promoting the idealism of play hard and work selfishly. The whole ethos of the film is if you are doing well you can do as much cocaine, have as many affairs and invite as many hookers as you want back to the office. Unfortunately, some recruiters seem to have taken this to be their mantra where he is now idolised and quoted in meetings on a daily basis. This unfortunately leads to underhanded tactics; such as setting up fake LinkedIn accounts (pretending to be a candidate) and become what we in the industry we call a "Catfish Recruiter" or a bottom feeder; instead of following in the footsteps of successful agencies and taking the time to get to know candidate’s and client’s needs and understanding how they prefer us to work.
What people seem to have overlooked in Wolf of Wall Street is that this was a hedonistic film poking fun at the 80's yuppies and lifestyle; the fact is also wasted that everything they did was illegal. Do you really want someone working for you where they just want to make a quick buck, making ill informed decisions and damn the consequences to your reputation?
I may personally be a little biased but this is where I feel DP Connect are different, maybe it's because we were founded by a woman awarded Most Influential Woman in Recruitment time and time again, maybe it's because we have been running for 25 years and don't need to be as cutthroat whilst trying to carve a name for ourselves in a saturated industry, or just maybe it's because we have families and are founded on the principles that the recruitment industry needs to change and be dealt with on a personal level.
As the Business Development Manager here at DP Connect, I speak to clients on a daily basis that say how refreshing it has been to work with an agency that take their requirements first and who is not solely target driven. If you want to work with an agency that will treat you as their first priority whether you are a candidate or a client then be sure to reach out to DP Connect as “redefining partnerships” is our mantra.
