Set dates in your mind for closing dates, decisions, interview dates and even the date that you would like to hire someone by. If you have potential employees ringing you to chase what is happening, missing deadlines and generally making more work then this can make the whole recruitment process much more complicated than it needs to be. Let candidates know what is expected of them, what dates you'll be letting them know decisions by and what you are going to be done - that way everyone knows what is happening and you should be left in peace to get on with the work you need to do to find the perfect person for the vacancy.

You need to make sure you know what you are doing and why you are doing it. If you're spending an hour going through CV's to see what skills everyone has, you need to know what you are looking for and why. That way you are measuring everyone against the same level, and you can easily see who the best candidates are for the job

If there is an easy way to do something within your whole recruitment process, then make sure you do this - there is little point making life harder for yourself if it is not needed. Look at ways you can do things without hassle, so that you have more time to concentrate on more important tasks.
Who Are You Looking For?
Before you start down the process of recruiting someone you need to make sure that you know the type of person that you want to hire and what skills/qualifications you would like them to have. By having a checklist of desirability's (and essentials) you can easily move on from one anyone that doesn't fit in with this and that will help speed up the recruitment process significantly.
