August 2023 Job Report

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a mixed employment situation for August 2023. Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 187,000, while the unemployment rate rose to 3.8 percent. Job gains were notable in healthcare , leisure and hospitality, social assistance, and construction , but transportation and warehousing saw a decline in employment. Despite these fluctuations, the labor force participation rate and the employment-population ratio showed modest improvements. Wage growth persisted, with average hourly earnings rising by 4.3 percent over the past year.

August Poll Results

This past month we asked our 200K+ LinkedIn followers several insightful questions regarding staffing needs and AI’s impact on the workforce. Our community did not hold back — here are the key takeaways:

• When asked " Do you usually require permanent or temporary staffing?", an impressive 67% of companies lean towards permanent staffing, valuing the stability it brings to their teams. On the flip side, a dynamic 7% opt for temporary staffing, embracing its flexibility.
• Shifting focus to the realm of AI — we asked our followers, “Are you utilizing AI technology in your job?” 24% of our following have embraced AI, making it a staple in their daily workflow. And excitingly, another 24% are venturing into the AI landscape, eager to explore its potential.
• Looking at the bigger picture in a multitude of industries, the impact of AI is undeniable. When asked “Is your company leveraging AI to enhance products and services?”, a significant 27% of companies are boldly embracing AI with open arms, paving the way for innovation.
