“Tech that!” – sanctions for Russia?
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine earlier this year, major global chip manufacturers – including Intel, Samsung and Qualcomm – have ceased doing business with the state. This comes after the US, UK and Europe announced a series of sanctions against leading Russian companies in a bid to encourage de-escalation. Holding Big Tech accountable?
US-based non-profit organisation The Tech Oversight Project has launched a campaign condemning internet giants for charging small businesses unnecessary fees that are being passed down to consumers. Companies under fire include Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, and Facebook parent company Meta. The campaign ads are designed to get US constituents to pressure their senator into taking action against said companies.
The future of Manchester tech
Manchester Angels, a new technology-focused angel investment network, has been dubbed the “crucial missing link” in the Northern tech powerhouse’s ecosystem. The group aims to pair startups with experienced entrepreneurs who have “the ability to mentor and the desire to invest” and will include 30 Greater Manchester private investors as well as institutional investors, with entrepreneur David Levine leading the business search.?

Diversifying UK tech
Speaking at London Tech Week, Nadine Dorries MP urged businesses to increase their efforts to recruit people from “any walk of society”. She argued that, when it comes to the hiring process, “critical thinking and creativity” are just as crucial as qualifications. In the same vein, Dorries also highlighted areas outside of London as hubs for sourcing talent and setting up companies, in a bid to aid socially deprived areas.?

The rise of remote working has been especially helpful for female employees – empowering them to pursue their visions in a flexible environment.
