Recruiting
Recruiting
At the tail end of my tour in Afghanistan with 2d Cavalry Regiment, I learned that my follow-on assignment coming out of Company Command would be to take command of the Lynchburg, Virginia Recruiting Company.
My friends gasped in horror. "You're going to hate recruiting. It's one of the worst assignments you can get."
When I told them that I had selected it as my #1 choice - they trashed my thoughts even more. Clearly, I was asking for trouble.
Not really. There were a lot of reasons why I chose that assignment, with the location being the #1 choice for my family.
In reality, I wanted a different challenge. One that involved people and learning about the motivations of young adults, as it pertained to serving in the Army at the time.
What I didn't know is how much those three years in recruiting would shape my mindset.
I learned how to talk to people about what THEY wanted from a career. What interested them, both inside the Army, and outside in their personal lives.
Did the act of recruiting suck, as my friends had told me it would? Not at all. I got to work with some of the best Noncommissioned Officers the Army had to offer, and watch them do outstanding things. I also got to see the world from an entirely new perspective.
I didn't appreciate the Army experience when I was enlisting. It was mostly just, go here, sign this, do this, see this doctor, congrats, you're a Soldier now.
Being on the other side educated my perspective on onboarding, expectation management, building the right procedure upfront, and teaching me (again) how to speak to people who didn't speak Army.
I also learned the art of the interview, from both perspectives. I think that's key, right? Understanding how to interview and be interviewed?
It certainly helps with writing job descriptions, resumes, and offer letters because you can see how someone else might understand it as you are writing it. Just seeing how others write something has helped me as I've moved along in my journey from Soldier, to an employee, to a small business owner.
If I could talk to those naysayers now who told me recruiting sucked - I'd tell them: You missed out on an experience that will help you for the rest of your life. I know it will help me as I move forward in mine.
Aerial Resupply Coffee
I have a massive announcement upcoming in the next day or two.

Let's just say that Aerial Resupply Coffee is on the exact path I envisioned 9 months ago when this entire thing started. I'm stoked - so keep your eye out for upcoming news.
Father's Day
With Father's day around the corner, I've been asked what I might want. For me, it's come down to two different toys:
I can go back and forth on why both of these are awesome - and they are awesome - but I'd love to hear your experiences with both of these toys from a beginners' perspective.
Some of you are experts at one or both. So - what should I be focused on in researching the best thing for me?
Oh - and some insight: my plan is to use one or both for Aerial Resupply Coffee.
Coffee
Free Shipping.
You want it - I got it. Well, I have it in the form of Prepaid subscriptions - which is the best deal out there.
For the next 6 or 12 months - you can buy your coffee on a monthly basis with auto-delivery, and never pay shipping again.
It's not Amazon prime, but it's as close as it gets from Aerial Resupply Coffee.
Go here to check it out for yourself. It's a hell of a deal - considering that you automatically save 20% by prepaying for your favorite blend of coffee.
Until next time...
Mike
I drink coffee, take nature photographs, and know things.
2 年Cameras are a hard one to recommend. Get a good body I personally like Canon and chose to go full-frame mirrorless with my last camera body purchase. Get the best lens you can afford to buy. A great camera body isn't going to do you much if you're using a cheap lens. If you're doing a lot of product photography I'd suggest getting a 50mm F1.8.
